Samax Motorsports signs Chris Festa to race the 24 Hours
of Daytona
January
19, 2007, Daytona, FL: Samax Motorsports added Chris
Festa to its already star studded line up of drivers to
contest the 2007 edition of the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Chris, a regular driver for the Target Chip Ganassi Racing
team in the Indy Racing League's Indy Pro Series, will
drive the # 7 Riley Pontiac Daytona Prototype, along with
former Formula One/Champ Car driver, Tomas Enge, Briton's
Tom Kimber-Smith and Indy Car driver Jeff Bucknum.
"I'm
thrilled that Peter Baron at Samax Motorsports offered us
this opportunity to drive in one of the world's most
prestigious and historic races," said Chris Festa. "The
24 Hours of Daytona has always attracted the world's best
drivers from many forms of racing. It will be special to
race against drivers like Jeff Gordon from NASCAR, Paul
Tracy from Champ Car and my own Ganassi teammates Dan
Weldon and Scott Dixon from Indy Racing and Juan Pablo
Montoya from Formula One and NASCAR. It's a great race,
with a long history and, from what I can see, a lot of
fun. Practically, it's also a great way to tune up for
our Indy Pro Series season opener in Homestead which is
only weeks away."
The 24
Hours of Daytona begins 1:30 PM on Saturday, January 27th,
ending 1:30 PM on Sunday. More than half the race will be
run at night. The cars will lap the fabled 3.56 mile road
course that incorporates half of the oval over 600 times
in 24 hours. Over 70 cars from Porsche, Lexus, Pontiac,
BMW, Corvette, etc. will compete in two classes; the 200
mile per hour Daytona Prototypes and the production based
GT cars. With 70 cars and a nearly 50 mile per hour
difference in speed between the Prototypes and GT cars,
the traffic can frightening at times and at speeds over
150 miles per hour.
